Streetwise Pepper Spray
Streetwise Pepper Spray enables you to defend yourself while keeping a safe distance from an attacker. A one-second burst to the face will cause temporary blindness, choking, coughing, and nausea--bringing the attacker to his knees.
The active ingredient in Streetwise Pepper Spray is Oleoresin Capsicum (OC), commonly known as red pepper. When considering which pepper spray is most effective, one must look at the percentage of pepper being used and the heat rating of that pepper (measured in Scoville Heat Units or SHU).
All Streetwise Pepper Sprays are two million SHU, which is one of the highest available. The potency of this spray enables it to bring down even the most aggressive assailants. Streetwise offers a wide range of sizes for both civilians and police.

Testing Your Pepper Spray
You may wonder after having purchased pepper spray whether you should test it to make sure it works the way it is supposed to work. Actually, you'd be well advised to develop the habit of testing your spray every six months or so. This is how to test it.
First go outside and see which direction the wind is blowing. Always spray in the same direction as the wind, or with the wind at your back. The last thing you want is a face full of spray!
Push the firing mechanism for one-half second. You should repeat this test about every six months and recognize that every time you test your spray you reduce the contents. For example, if you are using a spray key chain model that contains only a half ounce of spray, you will need to replace the canister or unit every eighteen to twenty-four months.
Will a pepper spray keep you from being a victim?
Crime victims are frequently chosen because they are easy targets. Criminals prey on the weak or unsuspecting, and usually avoid people who are aware of what´s going on and might put up a fight. When out in public, look people in the eye, keep your head up, and walk with a confident stride. This tells the predator that you are more likely to see him coming and resist. Without the element of surprise, assailants will likely pass you up for someone who´ll put up less of a fight.
Send the message that you´re calm, confident and know where you are going. Carrying a defense spray will help increase your confidence.
Do defense sprays ever fail?
The inside of a defense spray canister is like a squirt bottle under pressure. An intake straw dips to the bottom of the canister, into the liquid mixture. For this reason the canister should remain fairly upright. If the canister is held upside down while spraying only the propellant will escape. If the canister loses pressure, you may not be able to spray when you need it, even though you may be able to hear and feel the liquid sloshing around and you believe the can is full.
Other potential problems: the spray nozzle may become clogged with lint or dirt, the trigger may break off, or, if left in the car on a hot day, the canister may be exposed to temperatures over 140° F (60° C). Even if the canister doesn't explode (which it might), high heat may cause a leak or a loss of the pressure needed to fire the device. High heat may also shorten the life of the active ingredients.
